Pathway to Behaviour Support Funding Program
Use existing IDL funding for assessments and reports, informing future NDIS Behaviour Support funding.
What is the Pathway to Behaviour Support Funding Program?
Securing Improved Relationships (IR) funding
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is funded through Improved Relationships (IR) funding in an NDIS plan. However, many participants don’t yet have IR funding allocated and instead have Improved Daily Living (IDL) funding available.
Through this program, our Behaviour Support Practitioners can use IDL funding to conduct initial assessments of behavioural and support needs, creating an evidence-based recommendation report that advocates for dedicated IR funding for the next NDIS plan review.

A pathway to Improved Relationships funding
This program supports NDIS participants who would benefit from dedicated Positive Behaviour Support to work towards their goals.
Our Behaviour Support Practitioners collaborate with participants and their support networks to understand individual goals and conduct comprehensive assessments using available IDL funding.
Assessments typically require around 15 hours and result in an evidence-based recommendation report advocating for Improved Relationships funding in the next plan review.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this program provide ongoing behaviour support?
No – IDL funding cannot be used for ongoing Positive Behaviour Support or Behaviour Support Plans. However, this program provides the initial assessment and recommendation report you need to secure dedicated Improved Relationships funding in your next NDIS plan, which can then be used for ongoing Behaviour Support.
Do I need dedicated Behaviour Support funding to start?
No – that’s the purpose of this program. If you have Improved Daily Living (IDL) funding in your current NDIS plan, you can use these funds for an initial behavioural assessment and recommendation report. This report then supports your request for dedicated Behaviour Support funding in your next plan review.
What happens during the assessment?
Our Behaviour Support Practitioners work with participants, families, and support networks to understand behaviours, recognise risks, and identify support needs. This forms the basis of a recommendation report that outlines why dedicated Improved Relationships funding is required.
Will this use up all my IDL funding?
No – we prioritise minimising impact on your other essential supports. We work efficiently to provide a detailed assessment whilst only using the specific hours you’ve allocated for this purpose. We’ll discuss this with you before starting.
How many hours are required from my existing plan?
It depends on individual circumstances, but typically ranges from 10 to 20 hours of your IDL funding. On average a behavioural assessment requires 15 hours. This ensures we can conduct a thorough evaluation and provide a detailed recommendation report that effectively supports your Improved Relationships funding request. We’ll discuss the specific allocation with you before starting.
